Seiki Hasegawa

It is my greatest honor to serve as the Chairperson of Thoracic Surgery at the 73rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery (JATS) from October 28th to Sunday October 31st. This is the first JATS meeting run by three field chairpersons, and is expected to be more powerful and fruitful ever. In this context, I provided an all-Japan program committee, instead of local committee.

Due to the COVID-19, we decided to run the JATS 2020 as an online meeting, instead of a live event. It is unfortunate that we cannot gather in person, but we can be as one through hot online discussions.

A techno academy session “Knack and pitfalls for minimally invasive surgery in the field of respiratory surgery” focuses on the surgical and practical issues of video-assisted thoracic surgery, robot-assisted thoracic surgery, and uniportal thoracic surgery. We have three symposiums entitled “Therapy of lung cancer in a new era ~ surgery for lung cancer as a part of multimodal treatment”, “New method for lung preservation and evaluation of graft function in lung transplantation”, and “A paradigm shift in the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma”. We also have three special sessions: “Introducing the success of women doctors as thoracic surgeons”, “Let it leave for us in 10 years! - Association of young thoracic surgeons-”, and “Nightmares in thoracic surgery”.

We look forward to seeing guests and colleagues online.
